Plainfiles makes record-keeping and compliance kits for small UK businesses: the checklists, logs and spreadsheets you need when a licence, an inspection or a new HMRC rule lands on your desk.
Every kit starts from the official source. We read the legislation and the GOV.UK guidance, then turn it into documents you can fill in: a matrix showing which page of your paperwork covers each condition, daily logs, trackers and workbooks. Each kit lists the sources it was checked against and the date it was checked.
We use AI tools to help draft and lay out the kits, and every rule a kit relies on is checked against the source before release. Every kit ships with editable Word and Excel files that work in Google Docs, Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice, plus a printable PDF.
Our kits are templates, not legal or tax advice, and they are not endorsed by any council or government body. If something in a kit looks out of date or unclear, message us and we will fix it.
Guides and logbooks
The guides on this site follow the same rule: they are written from the official sources, link to every one of them, show the date they were last checked, and say what is law, what is only guidance and what is not yet in force. We also have four paperback logbooks by Liam Humphreys, which are not on sale yet.
